Here's a purr-fectly adorable cat costume that's fun and easy for your child to make!  Using things you most likely have around the house, and a bit of creativity, you send your child out this fall to pounce for Halloween candy in style!

How to make it:

To make the ears:

1. Shape pink pipe cleaners into two small (about 2” tall x 1 ½” wide) triangles to form the inner ears.  Leave enough length to wrap the ends around the headband and hold them in place.  (See photo.)
2. Take a black jumbo chenille stem and wrap it around the headband, forming a large triangle. You'll need to use two or three more jumbo chenille stems to fill in the entire triangle. (See photo.)
3. Slide the pink triangle into the black triangle, securing them together with the loose ends of the pink chenille stem. (See photo.)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the second ear. (See photo.)

To make the tail:

1. Line up two toilet paper cardboard tubes inside of a plastic bag, and then wrap the bag around them. (See photo.)
2. Stuff the wrapped tubes into the black sock, pushing them into the foot area. (See photo.)
3. Stuff the toe section inside the end of the cardboard tube. (See photo.)
4. Staple the tubes in place in the sock. (See photo.)
5. Wrap the long paper towel tube with a plastic bag, and stuff into the long shin/thigh part of the sock. (See photo.)
6. Fold the open end of the sock inside the paper towel tube and safety pin it closed. (See photo.)
7. To soften the look of the tail, use some double-sided fashion tape or glue, attach little pieces of black furry boa material to the end of the tail, and around the place where the long and short tubes meet. (See photo.)
8. Dress your child up in the black leotard and tights and safety pin the tail to the outfit.

To make wrist and leg cuffs:

1. Measure and cut even lengths of the boa material to tie around your child’s wrists and ankles for added effect. Glue the pieces of boa to black elastic to make the cuffs extra comfy for your kid. (See photo.) 

Tips:

1. Finish off the feline look by using some pink lipstick to paint a cat nose and eye liner to draw on whiskers.
2. Be sure to keep the tail short enough to be safe for the child while he/she is trick-or-treating.
