Here's a purr-fectly adorable cat costume that's fun and easy for your child to make!  Using things you most likely have around the house, and a bit of creativity, you send your child out this fall to pounce for Halloween candy in style!

How to make it:

1. Draw cat ears on the cardboard. Cut out the ears. Cover with construction paper or fabric using glue. Attach the ears to the plastic headband.  It might be helpful to have a bent "tab" built into the ears before gluing, so that they stay attached and perky!
2. Make a tail out of stuffed long socks (sports socks from your husband work well) and safety pin them to the seat of the leggings. You can also sew a tube from the ear fabric, stuff it, and then attach it to the seat of the leggings (see photo).  If you use white socks, you can use some old craft paint or markers to coordinate with the rest of the outfit.
3. Use the two dark socks or the dark knit gloves for "paws."
4. Draw cat whiskers on your child's face and color their nose dark.

 

Tips:

• A hot glue gun works very well if you do not have craft glue.  Please make sure the child is supervised by an adult, however, if a hot glue is used.
• If you're looking for ideas for girl costumes, keep an eye out at yard sales and consignment shops. They often have dresses or dance outfits that make great dress-up clothes, and can be utilized for all sorts of costumes.
• Be sure to keep the tail short enough to be safe for the child while he/she is trick-or-treating.
