What you'll need:
- Felt: tan, red, white, pink, green, brown, dark brown
- Large button
- 2 small wiggle eyes
- Doll pin and doll pin stand OR regular or jumbo craft stick
- 10” piece of ribbon
- Scissors
- White craft glue
- Patterns
How to make it:
- Print out the patterns and cut shapes from felt. Use brown for the ears, face, legs and hands and dark brown for the shoes. Use green for the body, red for the hat, white for the trim, and pink for the cheeks.
- Insert doll pin into doll pin stand. You can also use a craft stick and use this as a puppet.
- Glue the legs to the bottom of the doll pin.
- Glue the shoes on to the doll pin stand, overlapping the bottom of the legs.
- Glue the body above the legs, again overlapping the legs. (See image.)
- Glue the head above the body, overlapping the neck area.
- Apply some glue to the ears and press them in place behind the head.
- Assemble the hat by glue the red piece to the white hat band. Next glue on the white pom pom piece to the top of the red hat.
- Glue the hat on to the head, overlapping the sides of the head.
- Glue the eyes and the nose to the face.
- Glue the button to the center of the body.
- Glue the hands to the sides of the button.
- Run the ribbon through the opening in the back of the doll pin. (See image.) Tie in a knot and put a dab of glue onto the knot. Turn ribbon so that the knot and glue go up into the slit on the doll pin, pull up tight. If using a craft stick simply glue the ribbon to the back of the stick.
- Allow the glue to dry completely.
Tips:
- Felt is available in many different colors and is inexpensive. Be sure to save scraps as they make good stuffing!
- Check thrift stores as they will often have bags full of buttons for very little money.
- If you don’t have any buttons, try anything that is small to a human and very large to a mouse!
