What you'll need:
- Easter basket
- 4" or 5" polystyrene ball
- 2" or 3" polystyrene ball
- 1 ½ sheets yellow felt
- 6 yellow feathers
- Scrap of orange felt
- 2 medium wiggle eyes
- Wide pastel colored ribbon, 12" in length
- Easter grass
- Plastic Easter eggs
- White craft glue
- Scissors
How to make it:
- Line basket with Easter grass, leave a well in the center.
- Place large polystyrene ball in the center of the full sheet of yellow felt.
- Cover ball with glue and wrap the felt around the ball. (See photo.)
- Place the uncovered bottom of the ball into the well in the Easter grass inside the basket. (See photo.)
- Cut one side of the smaller ball to give it a flat surface, this will be the bottom of the ball.
- Cover the smaller ball in similar fashion with the half sheet of yellow felt. The bottom of the ball should be uncovered. Wrap the felt around the ball and grasp the ends of the felt tight, hold in place for a minute. (See photo.)
- Hold the small ball in the palm of your hand and open up the overlapping ends of the felt. Trim the ends with scissors. (See photo.)
- If the felt and glue did not stick, go ahead and add another layer of glue to the ball and press the felt in place.
- Place the flat end of the small ball (head) on top of the large yellow ball in the basket. Allow to dry. (See photo.)
- Carefully tie the ribbon around the neck into a bow, trim the ends.
- Glue 3 feathers to each side of the yellow ball. (See photo.)
- Cut a diamond shape from the orange felt. Fold diamond in half and cut a small slit for the mouth. Glue to the front of the head. (See photo.)
- Glue two wiggle eyes onto the chick's face.
- Add plastic eggs to the basket. (See photo.)
Tips:
- Instead of using felt, try painting the foam balls yellow, or cut ends off of yellow feathers and glue them around the ball.
- Sometimes white glue will soak into felt and you may need a second layer.
- Get Easter baskets from garage sales or dollar stores.
