How to Perfectly Wrap a Gift

Finishing Touches

Add the Gift Tag

Whether it's part of a heartfelt note or a succinct "To" and "From," everyone likes seeing their name on a present! If the rest of your wrapping is simple, this can be a nice place to add a flourish of creativity.

  • Cards. Secure your card to the package with tape. This is especially important if your gift is one of many and will be opened later – nothing incites Miss Manners panic like receiving a lovely gift and not knowing whom to thank!

  • Gift tags. If you are using a gift tag, you can thread it through the end of the ribbon before you tie your bow. Use a hole-punch if the tag doesn't have a hole of its own.

  • Write the name on the wrapping. If you prefer not to use a gift tag, you may write the recipient's name directly on the package. Try a metallic marker for the holidays, or a bright paint pen in a contrasting color. Experiment with fancy script or oversized letters for a bold, graphic look.

Tip: If you're wrapping gifts ahead of time and planning to add tags and cards later, remember to label them with sticky notes so you don't mix them up, or – horrors! – have to undo all your perfect wrapping to see what's inside.
