Handprint Wall Hanging

Instead of just making something for your grandparents, get them involved in the project too! Join your handprint with your Grandma or Grandpa to make these adorable keepsake wall hangings.

What you'll need:
- 3 sheets of felt in complimentary colors
- 2 sheet white paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- White craft glue
- Black fine-tip marker
- 12” wooden dowel
- 18” yarn
- 6” ribbon
- 2-3 safety or stick pins
How to make it:
- Use a pencil to trace your hand and your grandparent’s hand onto a white piece of paper.
- Use scissors to cut the hand patterns out.
- Use pins to secure child’s paper hand pattern to one of the pieces of felt. Cut around the pattern. Repeat this process with the larger hand pattern on another piece of felt.
- Lay remaining sheet of felt on to the work surface. Position hands on top of the full sheet until you have them where you want them. Glue the hands in place.
- Cut a 1.5” wide strip from the bottom of a piece of white paper (8.5” x 1.5”).
- Use a black marker to write “Grandma’s Little Angel” or “Grandpa’s Little Buddy”. Glue the phrase above the hands; leave enough room at the top of the felt to fold over around the dowel (about 1”).
- Turn felt over and glue dowel to the back, wrapping the top of the felt around the dowel. Hold in place for a few minutes to let glue grab.
- Tie yarn to both ends of the dowel and join in the center at the top for a hanger.
- Tie a piece of ribbon around the top end of the yarn hanger.
Tips:
- To add a special touch to this keepsake, write the year on a small piece of paper and glue at the bottom between the hands.
- Use a dark color for the background of your wall hanging and two contrasting colors for the hands.
- If sending this as a gift to a distant grandparent, use one of your parent’s hands for the pattern. To ship, gently roll up your creation, insert into an empty, clean potato chip cylinder, wrap in brown craft paper and mail!
