Have your kids gone ga-ga over Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, and Taylor? Now that the gang is back with brand new adventures in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, why not devote a whole day to the HSM films by throwing a High School Musical-inspired party? Here are some great ideas for throwing a bash that will have everyone cheering:
Movie Marathon
Why not create an organized refresher course of all the previous High School Musical films by hosting your own home screening of HSM 1 and 2? Start the day off by playing the movies back to back, then head to the theater for a night (or afternoon) out to see HSM3!
Get In the Game
The HSM kids love their school basketball team, the East High Wildcats. Add some sporty fun to the party by setting up a friendly game of b-ball. Don’t have an outdoor basketball hoop? Get resourceful by setting up a homemade indoor basketball game: Use a clean wastebasket as a "hoop." Take masking or electrical tape and mark out distances from the basket and use crumpled up pieces of paper as "basketballs." See who can get the ball in from the furthest distance away. Have little ones who prefer to do something more sedate? Gather everyone up for a sports-themed joke session or have kids take turns playing an online hoops shooting game.
Throw Your Own Mini-Talent Show
Offer guests an opportunity to share their hidden talents! Corner off a section of your living room or playroom as the dance floor/stage. Set up a CD player to spin the soundtracks of HSM 1, 2, and 3 and invite kids to sing along or dance. Gather a bunch of old hairbrushes and combs to pass out as makeshift microphones or get a box together of fun accessories like sunglasses, wigs, and scarves that kids can throw on to complete their superstar looks.
Make Music-Inspired Crafts
Get into the groove by making crafts using old CDs and CD-ROMs. Tweens and teens will love making CD magnets they can hang in their school lockers. Print out music-themed clip art to use as examples of musical notes and instruments the kids can draw.
Serve a Sports Ball Cake
Top off the party with a special dessert that will wow your party-goers. Kids will love the look of these spherical cakes made to look like their favorite sports ball. Try making a basketball that would make the Wildcats proud or a golf ball inspired by the country club setting of HSM2. Go Graduation Style
Now that the HSM kids are celebrating their senior year, why not add some graduation-theme elements into the mix? That means caps (use painted cardboard or construction paper) and gowns (solid color table cloths or cheap material will work), diplomas, and yearbooks.
