Magnetic Marker Box

Difficulty: Easy

Parental supervision is recommended

Find pens and markers when you need them after your kids create this handy magnetic marker box from an old bandage box.

What you'll need:

  • Plastic bandage box
  • Double-stick tape or tacky glue
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • White paper or large white sticker
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Clear Con-Tact paper
  • Adhesive backed magnet (by the sheet)
  • Foam sanding block

How to make it:

  1. Cut off top of box at hinge.
  2. Use sanding block to roughen up the flat surface of the box. This will allow the adhesive to stick to the box easier.
  3. Measure the box from top to bottom edges, then around three sides and a little bit on to the back.
  4. Draw the box size in the middle of a piece of paper. Doing this will allow the child to draw freely with markers and not worry about getting it on your table.
  5. Let the child draw designs on the paper. We used Crayola Changeables markers on ours.
  6. Cut out design.
  7. Using double stick tape or tacky glue, adhere the drawing to the box.
  8. Cut out Con-Tact paper and cover to protect the drawing.
  9. Cut out a magnet the size of the entire back of the box. Remember, once markers and pens are put inside, the box will become heavy and will need the magnet to hold it up! Adhere the magnet to the box.
  10. Put your marker box on the refrigerator next to any magnetic tablets, calendars or other things you may need to use markers for.
