Capturing the Moment

From Taking Photos to Scrapbooking
In some small way, I think almost everyone who takes a photograph is a scrapbooker. The definition of scrapbooking to me is someone who in some way captures a moment. Whether it gets put into a box, a simple album or made into a book that has taken hours to create, it’s all scrapbooking to me.
Since I was in sixth grade, I have had my own camera and have been obsessed with taking photographs. I scrapbooked then, making fun pages for my friends. But it was the birth of my first daughter eight years ago that really brought scrapbooking into my life on a full-time basis. I quickly became obsessed with all things scrapbooking---the photography, journaling the things that we did, the purchasing of products and most importantly, the act of creating the scrapbook pages. I had always been surrounded by arts and crafts, and had a strong love for creating. Scrapbooking just fell naturally into my lap.
At that time, the scrapbooking industry was not large, there were very few independent stores, small sections in large craft chain stores and very little presence on the Internet. I had quickly become obsessed with finding the products that were being used in scrapbooking magazines. Knowing there must be others searching, I founded Two Peas in a Bucket with my husband. I wanted a place for scrapbookers to come and talk, to share their ideas and layouts, and to find the products they were looking for.
In the eight years that I have run Two Peas in a Bucket, my love for scrapbooking has only grown stronger. With three kids now in our family, I take more photos than ever before and end up with three times as much material to scrapbook. I love the art of scrapbooking and the act of creating. I love the journaling aspect of scrapbooking and do all my journaling in my own handwriting. All together it is something that I will leave for my children and their children. I want them to know what we did, what I thought was important and how I felt about it. I have a love of history, and this is me recording our own history.
