Create a snowman figure that's a little bit different with this craft that uses three circular paper mache boxes. Makes a fun kids' activity for a winter afternoon.

What you'll need:

  • Three paper mache boxes in incremental sizes (One and a half inches, One and 3/4 inches, and two inches across)
  • White craft paint
  • Black craft paint
  • Paint brush or foam brush
  • Two wiggle eyes (about 1/4 inches across)
  • Three black beads (3/8 inches)
  • Red sock or red felt
  • Orange Fimo clay
  • Hot glue gun

How to make it:

  1. Paint the two larger boxes with white craft paint. They may require additional coats of paint.
  2. Base coat the smallest box with black craft paint.
  3. Let boxes dry.
  4. Using the end of foam brush (or other round surface such as the end of a pen), dip in white paint and apply white dots to the black box.
  5. Let dry.
  6. Assemble the boxes.
  7. Take the smallest box, turn it upside down and glue the lid on to the lid of the middle sized box.
  8. Glue the middle sized box, right side up, on top of the largest box.
  9. Take an old red sock and cut an 1/2 inch wide by eight inch strip out of the cuff. (see tips below)
  10. Tie the "scarf" around the snowman's neck.
  11. Glue on wiggle eyes.
  12. Glue on the black beads for the buttons.
  13. Take a tiny piece of orange Fimo clay and shape a carrot nose. Glue to the face.

Tips:

If your sock cuff is not long enough, cut a one inch wide strip. Then cutting down the middle of the strip, stop right before reaching the end. Straighten out and this will make a longer strip to tie around the snowman's neck.
