What you'll need:

  • Glass jar
  • Scissors
  • Painter's tape
  • White glue
  • Water
  • Light blue paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Dark blue felt
  • Scissors
  • Felt glue
  • Blue glitter glue
  • Pattern

How to make it:

  1. Print pattern and trim around it. Roll up a piece of tape and place it on the front of the pattern, then insert the pattern into the jar. Press the pattern against the glass so that the tape on the pattern sticks to the glass. (See photo.)
  2. Cut strips of painter's tape and use the pattern as a guide to make the star on the front of the jar. (See photo.)
  3. Mix together one part water, three parts glue and one part light blue paint. Mixture should be fairly thick. (See photo.)
  4. Use the paintbrush to dab the paint/glue mixture all over the jar. Make sure to cover the painter's tape star as well then allow the jar to dry for several hours. (See photo.)
  5. Apply a second coat and allow to dry overnight.
  6. Cut a strip of blue felt and using felt glue, attach to the rim of the jar.
  7. Lay the jar on its side and carefully pipe a thin border around the star using blue glitter glue. Let the glitter glue dry for several hours. (See photo.)
  8. Try to peel off the painter's tape, starting slowing and lifting upward. If the blue paint layer seems that it is peeling up with the painter's tape, an adult should use a craft knife to outline all of the tape edges, which will now separate the paint from the tape. Continue and carefully peel the painter's tape star off the jar.

Tips:

  1. This craft can be made easier by using regular paint to cover the jar instead of making the glue mixture.
  2. Buy battery operated tea lights to replace candles with a flame.
