On February 14th give someone special a fun little gift with these Valentine's Day Pins. Kids will have fun pouring the plaster of paris into the molds and decorating their pin craft afterwards.
Be sure to visit all of our Valentine’s Day crafts, our Valentine's Day cards and printable activities and our main Valentine’s Day ideas page.
What you'll need:
- Plaster of paris
- Water
- Measuring cup with a pour spout
- Mixing spoon
- Heart shaped plastic candy mold
- Pin backs
- Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Clear glaze or clear spray paint
How to make it:
- Mix the plaster of paris in a small bowl per instructions on the container.
- Place the plaster into the candy molds; be careful not to overfill the molds. (See image.)
- Let them stand for a minute or two, then gently press/place pin back (or magnet) into the plaster. (See image.) Let dry completely (a minimum of 30 minutes, longer is better).
- Pop plaster out of molds.
- Paint hearts however you like and let dry.
- Spray with acrylic sealer or glaze.
Tips:
- Create polka dots by dipping the handle end of a paintbrush into paint.
- Dip an old toothbrush into some paint thinned with a little water then rub your thumb across the bristles (pointing downward) to create a splatter affect.
- Plaster of paris is available at your local craft supply store and makes a LOT of projects!
